The members of Evansdale Fire Rescue believe in the philosophy that preventing fires and accidents is as important as our ability to respond to specific emergencies.  To emphasize this, Evansdale Fire Rescue started the Smoke Detector / Pizza Giveaway in Iowa in 2003.  During select times of the year, the Fire Rescue Department partner's with local businesses to deliver by fire truck, pizza's to residents in Evansdale.  If those selected residents show firefighters a working smoke detector, the ordered pizza is free.  If the residents do not have a working smoke detector, firefighters will install for free, battery operated smoke detectors (and now carbon monoxide detectors) on each floor of the home, while the residents still pay for their pizza.  This program has since been adopted by other agencies through the state and region.
Evansdale Fire Rescue has partnered with the Waterloo Community Schools and Waterloo FirePals program to provide safety education to students at Poyner Elementary and Bunger Middle School.
Selected Emergency Medical Technicians, specially trained to teach CPR, offer CPR classes to our community in an effort to teach everyone the basics of CPR and improve the chances of people who suffer from cardiac arrest.
